Splash Page or Lead Capture Blog - that 's the question.

Splash Page or Lead Capture Blog, Which one works best?

Thank you Lisa for such a great question.

A Splash Page is a single page that contains everything that a prospective customer needs to know about your product/service to make an informed decision. Splash pages are used to motivate buyers to act immediately, whether that action is to subscribe to a newsletter for more detailed information or to make a purchase. They start off with a catchy title, go into benefits, tell a story, then on to money back guarantees or trial offers, then on to the closing for purchase or lead capture for free info, trial offers, newsletters, etc.

Splash/lead capture pages/mini sites are all perfect if you are good at search engine optimization, where leads come from search engine results related to your business. If you do 90% of your marketing by word of mouth then a website would work best, your word of mouth advertising is basically what you get from a splash page and your website contains all the details adding to what is already mentioned on the splash page.

Think of a splash page as the final outline to your elaborate essay or website on your product/service.

Do you already have an auto responder? If so, your AR should allow you to embed the code needed to capture these leads from any website/blog/splash page that you create.

I created a splash page from a client that has both a splash page and website feel. The category is Travel Destinations, and it is search engine optimized to show up in results related to: travel destinations, travel vouchers, discount travel, travel certificates, etc. The lead capture portion of it is for people who do not make a decision right away to join, but are interested, these leads sign up to get a free valid travel certificate for travel that they can customize for their business, after a few visits to the site they eventually purchase what is offered. Here is the site for sample purposes: DestinationHaven.com

You need to make it easy for people to sell themselves. People love to buy they do not like being sold, so you need to make it so that they are more likely to buy by giving something of value away at no cost, whether this is a trial version or sample of what you offer. If you can not just give it away then make sure that you are putting them in your shoes as already owning this product/service. You do this with testimonials and videos showing the end result after purchase.

Think of Disney for example, If you've never been there and want to take a family, you can visit millions of websites online and get free brochures, cds, and even Disney merchandise sent to your home that are designed to really peak your interest, you sell yourself on the vacation and make it happen. The materials might have costed $3 with postage and handling but the pay off is in hundreds for any 1 person that decides to bite. So if the math in marketing is 1 out of 100 (depends on how effective your marketing is) then that means you spent upto $300 to get that 1 customer that nets you $500 for purchasing that week getaway at $1,500 for a family. This is just an example but I'm sure you get the point.

If you have a small budget, then you need to be very creative on what you are giving away, it needs to have a high PERCIEVED value to the customer and compliment what you are offering, by you giving it away you are informing and adding to your credibility as the seller which increases the probability that you will get a buy.

A splash page is also known as a "mini website" since it lacks most of the navigation and size of a traditional website, keeping content on 1-5 pages.

I personally offer my VIP members of MSOi101.com access to over 30 website tools that I have purchased over the years (of the hundreds these are my best).

Within the list of golden nuggets, there is something called "Killer Mini Sites" which is an ebook that does a great job in breaking down how to create a mini site that converts, it comes with an added bonus of a template of a mini site that you can change to suit your offerings. I use this template all the time. It is dated but you can not put an age on pure psychology of selling, it has past the test of time.

You can always create your splash page and upload the template to your blog page or simply add a link to your splash page on your blog. Your blog site will be a source of leads due to the number of users and does help with search engine results as long as you pack your blog entries with keywords associated with your product/services.

Hope I could be of some help, if I missed anything feel free to send me a message.

All the best,
